(CNN) – Imagine a Friday night with your favorite movie and butter flavored popcorn.  Well, you may want to put that popcorn down and think again.  That delicious buttery flavoring on your popcorn may trigger Alzheimer’s disease, a recent study says.

The flavorant, diacetyl, can stop the brain’s natural mechanisms of clearing the disease.  But Alzheimer’s isn’t the only thing it may impact.  According to researchers, the buttery flavorant is also linked to lung damage in microwave popcorn factory workers.

To date, the effects have only been seen in test-tube studies.
