(STLMoms) -  Can you feel it? Are your kids starting to get a bit anxious about the start of school? While heading to class can be an exciting time, it can also trigger depression and anxiety.

Dr. Greg Mattingly with the Midwest Research Group talks about easing your kids’ stress.  Many schools are just a week out.

One week before school resumes get your sleep/wake schedule reset in sync with your school routine.

For Kids with aniexty or depression, spend time at school, meet the teacher, hang out at the playground as a way to work through anxiety.
For Kids with ADHD and attention issues:
-restart their medications or get them tuned to their optimal level at least 1 week before school resumes.
-schedule a visit with your child’s doctor a month into the school year to discuss how they’re doing

Pay attention to these things:
-As the school year starts watch for changes in sleep, mood or anxiety, social withdrawal, changes in appetite, feeling overwhelmed, problems concentrating or just struggling with school.
