(CNN) – Women who are afraid to give birth tend to have longer labor than women who are more relaxed about the process.  Researchers say women who are more tense about delivery tend to be in labor 90 minutes longer.

Experts note, while this study finds a link between fear of childbirth and longer labor, it didn’t prove that anxiety caused the longer labors.

The findings appear in an International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
